Datavault or Cloud Hosting?
Which do you feel more comfortable in?
While the phrase, "Cloud Computing" is seen on the front of most technical magazines, I still don't have a good feeling about telling our clients to put their data, their precious data, records, secrets, intellectual property into a "cloud." One definition of "cloud" is "to make less visible or unclear." This is the last thing we want when handling data and Information. Sure, we are parsing words on the whole "cloud" campaign, but wouldn't you just sleep better at night knowing your data was resting securely in a secure "data center" or a "vault?"
More Tiers means Less Tears
Rather than send our clients to the "cloud" we prefer to bring them where we moved our very offices -- to a Tier IV Data Center. What does those tiers mean? Here is a quick rundown from a Webopedia definition:
- Tier 1: composed of a single path for power and cooling distribution, without redundant components, providing 99.671% availability.
- Tier II: composed of a single path for power and cooling distribution, with redundant components, providing 99.741% availability
- Tier III: composed of multiple active power and cooling distribution paths, but only one path active, has redundant components, and is concurrently maintainable, providing 99.982% availability
- Tier IV: composed of multiple active power and cooling distribution paths, has redundant components, and is fault tolerant, providing 99.995% availability
We write custom software applications for our clients and we also host and manage them across three data centers. One in Phoenix, AZ and two in Baton Rouge, LA. We love the secure environment of data centers so much, we decided to move our offices into one. High Power Consulting's office is now located in a NASplex data center in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
The facility is built from the ground up as a freestanding data center. Freestanding is important from a security perspective as it provides for autonomous and discrete controls of all building systems. The facility's dedicated grounds provides control over incoming communication links. The industrial complex is designed for a single purpose -- securely vaulting your systems and data. Mechanical rooms isolate the power generation system from UPS systems and the chilled water plant is autonomous. There's no public access to our data center, similar to military, financial, airline, or other energy / critical service related infrastructure facilities around the country.
Where's Your Sign?
One drawback to our building is that we can't put our sign outside. That means we spend a little extra time giving directions to our clients when they visit for the first time. However, if you call our main number (225) 910-8239, we'll give you the turn-by-turn to get to our office.
Here comes the Neighborhood
The High Power Data Center network neighborhood provides a "gated community"-like environment for our clients. We discriminate against services that can be problematic for the rest of the neighborhood and they are not accepted into the center. Sure, we lost some business, but this insures the highest levels of security and a better environment for everyone. We have an amazing firewall and intrusion detection system which monitors and pro-actively catches problems on the network. We are proud to be a part of the absolute Best network neighborhood around.
If it is important to you that you speak to a breathing human in the United States, just a few steps from the hardware and/or software you host with us, then you will find yourself safe and sound at our data centers.
